Brother I'm Dying

Quote #1 Pg.3; Paragraph 1: “I found out I was pregnant the same day that my fathers rapid weight loss and chronic shortness of breath were positively diagnosed as end-stage pulmonary fibrosis”

I chose this particular quote because I feel that it’s like boom and kicks the story off with a bang. This hit me of guard like wait what?... Huh… what’s going on? Wait a minute this grabbed my attention completely I didn’t know what was going on all I knew was something… pregnant… fibrosis. So of course I wanted to see what all the commotion was about. I felt that this was very effective as a “Hook” in order to get the reader to immediately become interested. Its like if you woke up in the middle of Manhattan the night before Christmas there’s so many things going on so fast you feel like your heads going to explode.

Quote #2 Pg.47; Paragraph 6: “my father got out of the car to hug me. He was breathing hard when he reached down to touch my still-flat belly. Don’t make her sad my mother said.”

I feel that this is sort of a problem what was it was there something wrong it’s been quit some time now she should be at least showing by now shouldn’t she. I think she knows it too and her mom and her dad all know. This made me worry if the baby would survive? Then I asked is she pregnant? Is she ok? What will happen to the baby? Is there a baby? I thought to myself if the baby was born would he be small of unhealthy. I couldn’t wait to find out.

I think she’s either not really pregnant or she has the baby and its going to be really small or sick. Something just seems wrong or is likely to go bad.

Question: do you think the baby’s ok? Do you think she’s lying about being pregnant? Why?
